The wildlife in Lofoten is not very rich. There are elk or moose, foxes and ermines or stoats. Otters are numerous and minks, escaped from the fur industry, are, unfortunately, also doing well. Recently there have also been deer. At the end of March, several families of orcas arrive who spend the summer in the Vestfjord and can regularly be seen from shore. Groups of pilot whales, porpoises and minke whales also swim there. In neighboring Vesterålen there are orcas and humpback whales in winter.
